Sri Lanka President has reappointed Lalith Weeratunga and Gamini Senarath to their original posts during his second term.
Lalith Weeratunga has been re-appointed as the Secretary to President from the day the President Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in for his second term while Gamini Senarath has been re-appointed as the Chief of Staff of the President also effective from Nov 19.
Lalith Weeratunga was first appointed as the Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka in 2005 when Mahinda Rajapaksa became the President. Weeratunga received his primary education at Rahula College, Matara before moving to Royal College Colombo for his secondary education. He is a graduate of the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya. A career SLAS officer, he was appointed as the Secretary to the Prime Minister when Rajapaksa was appointed as the Prime Minister following the 2004 General Parliamentary Election.
Chief of the Presidential Staff Gamini Senarath had been promoted to the level of a Ministry Secretary following a unanimous decision taken by the then new Cabinet of Ministers at its maiden meeting during the first term of the President. A past pupil of Rahula College, Matara and Richmond College, Galle and an Honours Graduate of the Kelaniya University and having his Post Graduate in Computer Science from the Colombo University, Senarath is a senior SLAS officer who has held many senior public service posts.
