Education Ministry calls for the postponement of final term exams in Sri Lanka schools

Sri Lanka's Education Ministry has requested the provincial education authorities to take necessary steps to hold the final term examinations in schools on dates that would not clash with the upcoming presidential inaugural celebrations.

The final semester school exams were initially scheduled to be held on November 15th, 16th, 18th and 19th. However, the Education Ministry has requested that these dates be postponed.

According to the Education Ministry, the decision had been made in order to allow the school children to participate in President Mahinda Rajapaksa's swearing into office for a second term on November 19th.

Education Ministry Secretary Sunil Sirisena has told the media that the exams are to be shifted to November 22, 23 and 24 and that several schools in the Colombo city have been advised to close on the 19th.
