Worker falls to death; tension erupts at Upper Kothmale hydro power project site of Sri Lanka

A worker of the Upper-Kothmale has died today supposedly from an accidental fall from the dam, the police said.

The deceased has made a call to a fellow worker around 12 p.m. yesterday and his body was recovered early this morning.

Following the discovery a tense situation arose in the Thalawakele site of the project between the workers and the security staff. The management took immediate steps to control the situation and a holiday was declared for the employees today.

Thalawakele police said that police and Army were providing security to the site. The Police suspect the fatal fall is accidental. However, six employees have been questioned so far regarding the death of the worker and investigations are continuing.
