Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today asked the medical fraternity to render ''humanitarian'' services to people, saying money should not be the primary consideration. ''You should not look at this as just a profession. You should serve the people with a humanitarian touch and this applies to all in the field of medicine,'' Karunanidhi said at the 125th year celebrations of the government-run Kasturba Maternity Hospital here.
Karunanidhi said medical professionals should work for the welfare of the economically poor, and according to their ''conscience.'' ''A small mistake by anyone in this field could bring a bad name to the entire profession as it directly serves the people,'' he said. Karunanidhi also inaugurated new buildings constructed from his MLA local development funds. He represents the Chepauk constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
