Ramadoss meets TN CM; whiff of a tie-up

PMK’S founder-leader S Ramadoss met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Wednesday after a gap of nearly two years, triggering speculation about the implications of the apparently non-political meeting of the two former allies.

The meeting comes close on the heels of an interview Ramadoss gave a day ago in which he spoke favourably of the DMK. On Wednesday morning, Ramadoss led a group of community leaders to the Chief Minister’s chamber in the Secretariat and submitted a resolution backed by 38 leaders urging caste-wise enumeration in Tamil Nadu. The meeting lasted around 30 minutes.

Coming out of the meeting, Ramadoss himself downplayed the significance of the meeting in terms of electoral politics, though the development caught the attention of political circles as it could pave the way for a possible reshaping of alliances in Tamil Nadu which will go for polls in mid-2011.
