Sri Lanka's Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has directed the Ministry Secretary to take disciplinary action against officials who had violated archaeological rules and regulations by approving construction work inside Galle Fort, which is a national heritage site.
Wanniarachchi has issued the directive to the Ministry Secretary, when the assessment of archaeological projects in the Galle District was taken up at the Progress Evaluation Meeting held in the Marine Archaeological Museum in Galle.
She has said that buildings higher than 10 meters are being built inside the Galle Fort and that no action has been taken against the builders.
