A green campaign to mark Sri Lanka President's birthday

Sri Lanka government has planned a massive tree planting campaign to mark the 65th birthday of the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa. The campaign will also mark his swearing in for the second presidential term.

Minister of Environment Anura Priyadharshana Yapa announced that measures had been finalized for the "Deyata Sevana" National Tree Planting Programme that is to be held on 15th of November.

The government has targeted to plant over 1.1 million trees within 11 minutes on the day, the Minister said. The Minister said that a large number of school children will participate in the tree planning campaign.

The President's 65th birthday falls on November 18th. Reportedly the President is to watch the first ship being piloted to the new Hambanthota Harbor on his birthday.

The swearing in ceremony for the second term of office of President would take place on November 19 in Colombo.
