Sri Lanka's Tamil alliance to testify before Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission

Sri Lanka's Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has decided to testify before the presidential Commission on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation when they meet in Kilinochchi this week
.The Commission is to meet in Kilinochchi on September 16, 17 and 18.
The TNA has accepted the invitation to testify before the Commission and has said that it will testify before the Commission, as they feel the problems of the Tamil people have not been recorded even though they have been presented in previous occasions.

TNA Leader R. Sampanthan has told the BBC Sandeshaya that issues that led to the war and what happened until the war ended "cannot be viewed in isolation" to the historical facts since independence.

"When we testify, ours will be a fairly full presentation in regard to the entire history of that total period," he has said.
Sampanthan has declined to comment on whether the Commission would address alleged human rights violations during the final stage of the war and said that the party is not concerned whether the Commission's work would conclude with any positive outcome.
"We believe that we have a duty vested upon us to put on record the position of the Tamil people and how there can be a genuine reconciliation," he has said.
The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission was mandated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to look into "the failure" of the ceasefire signed between the government and the LTTE in 2002 and "related matters" until May 19, 2009, when the government declared its military victory over the LTTE.
