The Sri Lankan government Thursday said the Parliamentary Council created under the 18th Amendment would be set up by January 2011.
Government Spokesperson and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the media in Colombo today that the Parliamentary Council would be set up by January 1, 2011 and once the Council is set up, appointments to the independent commissions would be completed within the first week of January 2011.
According to Rambukwella, the gazette notification legally establishing the Parliamentary Council is to be issued shortly.
The five-member Parliamentary Council replaces the former Constitutional Council that was established under the 17th Amendment.
