Sri Lanka Ministry of Health has taken measures to change the name of the National Cancer Institute which is commonly known as Cancer Hospital.
The Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a committee of experts to propose a suitable name for the hospital.
The Minister says that the Buddhist clergy pointed out to the Ministry that the name embarrassed the patients, relatives as well as the employees of the hospital.
National Cancer Institute is situated in Maharagama in the periphery of Colombo city.
