Asgiri Chapter supports 18th amendment to Sri Lanka Constittuion while Malwathu Chapter remain silent

Sri Lanka's major Buddhist Chapter Siyam Nikaya Asgiri Parshwa Chief Incumbent Rev. Udugama Sri Buddha Rakkhitha Thero said today that a clever leader should be allowed to rule the country without hindrance
.He made this comment in a discussion with the External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris who met the chief prelate to make aware him regarding the 18th amendment to the constitution.

The Minister also met the Siyam Nikaya Malwathu Parshwa Chief Incumbent Rev. Thibbotuwawe SiddharthaThero as well. However, media reported the chief prelate remained unresponsive to explanations of both the government and the opposition.
Major opposition United National Party Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake also met the chief prelates today to make them aware of the disadvantages of the 18th amendment to the constitution.
