Operations stepped up against Sri Lanka's underworld

Sri Lanka Police Special Task Force has stepped up operations to arrest 25 underworld gangsters who are wanted for serious crimes.
They include several underworld leaders of Sri Lanka. Some of them are believed to have fled from the country. However, some of their accomplices still live in the country absconding arrest, police say.
A number of underworld leaders were killed in clashes with police in recent times.
Last week, police arrested one Olcott Perera, a notorious gangster and criminal and he was killed in gunfire as he attempted to escape according to the police.
