Sri Lanka parliament approved the proposed 18th Amendment to the Constitution with a two-third majority just a short while ago.
The amendment was passed with 161 votes in favor and 17 against it in the 225-mmeber parliament.
The main opposition United National Party (UNP) boycotted the debate and the party members were not present in the House during voting.
This is the first time a Sri Lankan government had two-third majority in the parliament since 1977.
