Marxist party affiliated nurses union of Sri Lanka to launch token strike on Thursday

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated All Ceylon Nurses Union (ACNU) have threatened to launch a token strike on Thursday (30) as the government has failed to address their longstanding demands
.The ACNU said the nursing staff of 20 main hospitals in the country would join the token strike.
The head of the ACNU, S.B. Mediwatte expressed confidence that at least 70 percent of the nurses would participate in the sick note campaign.
He told the media at a press conference that the union would reconsider the decision to strike if the government agrees to discuss the matter and grant the demands.
According to Mediwatte, there were many issues faced by the health sector and in particular the nursing staff.
He added that the although the President had said he would solve the problems faced by the health sector within three months after being elected, no progress has been made.
