AIADMK chief Jayalalitha has been complaining of poor security for a while now, however the state government has come out with an advertisement claiming that the leader of the opposition is absolutely safe.
Not often it is seen a government release full page newspaper ads that say the leader of opposition is absolutely safe, but in Dravidian politics anything’s possible. Jayalalithaa complains of poor security and the DMK government’s response to all her complaints, is an ad campaign which claims she’s been given all the security she needs.
DMK MP TKS Elangovan says, “Saying that she has no security is just cheating the people, taking undue advantage of and seeking sympathy from the people. That’s not good leadership. The government has to come out with a statement because she’s giving a wrong message.”
The ad campaign started a day after AIADMK leader Thambidurai met the Prime Minister to complain of poor security for ‘Amma’. Jaya TV too has carried reports of threats to the AIADMK chief and she has used the issue in political campaigns. Her accusation is that she has not been given the 75 police personnel and 12 NSG commandos as part of the z plus cover.
The two sides have even fought court cases over security for Jayalalithaa and as Tamil Nadu heads for an election, the battle will only get more intense. But the question some are asking, is it fair for the government to waste tax-payer’s money and release ads to combat the opposition leaders’ security allegations.
