Indian Army Chief calls on Sri Lanka President


The Indian Army Chief, General Vijay Kumar Singh, who arrived in Colombo Sunday on a five-day official visit, called on Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's House Monday morning for discussions.

General Singh is also scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, and External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris.
The five-member Indian delegation also include General Singh's wife Mrs. Bharti Singh, President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), Major General Harminderjit Singh Sachdev SM, General Officer Commanding, Infantry Division, Brigadier Jatinder Pal Singh, Military Assistant and Mrs. Aravinder Kaur.
General Singh is to pay tributes to the Indian soldiers killed during the war with the LTTE at the memorial for the IPKF soldiers and officers Tuesday. He is also scheduled to visit the war-torn North on Tuesday.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge and the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya were also present.
