Emergency extended without a vote in Sri Lanka parliament as main opposition walks out

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today staged a walkout from parliament after Opposition and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe announced that the party will not participate in the debate on the 18th Amendment.

Parliament sittings were suspended for 10 minutes following the walkout.
Following the walkout, the UNP members held a sathyagraha campaign outside parliament against the 18th Amendment.
Meanwhile, emergency regulations were extended for another month by parliament a short while ago without a vote.
There was no call for a vote as most opposition members were not present in the House.
Till today, a vote was taken in parliament to extend emergency.
