Confusion over six organizers of Sri Lanka's main opposition after they ask for voting rights

Six organizers of Sri Lanka's crisis ridden main opposition United National Party (UNP) in the Galle District have called the party to give the organizers power to vote in the event a poll is held to elect the senior leaders.

UNP Hiniduma Organizer Bandula Lal Bandarigoda has been quoted in the local media as saying that the organizers should be given voting rights in the party.

He has said this should be done if the Provincial Council members and Pradeshiya Sabha members cannot be given the opportunity to vote to elect top leaders of the party.
The proposal has already been handed over to the party's reforms committee.
Meanwhile, a Sinhala daily paper has reported that six organizers, namely Ambalangoda organizer Maithri Gunaratne, Baddegama organizer L. Perera, Hiniduma organizer Bandula Lal Bandarigoda, Ratgama organizer Asoka Dhanawansa, Akmeemana organizer Wijepala Hettiarachchi, and Karandeniya organizer Jayantha Jayaweera had been removed from the organizers posts.
Ambalangoda Organizer Maithri Gunaratne has said that they have not received any letter informing of the party's decision to remove them. Hiniduma Organizer Bandula Lal Bandarigoda has also expressed the same sentiments.
However the organizers have said they will continue to work for the well-being of the party.
Gunaratne has charged that the government is trying to stay in power for ever and that the reorganization of the party should take place without delay.
