Canada lifts travel warning on Sri Lanka's North and East

Canada has reportedly removed the official travel warning for Sri Lanka's North and East but has advised Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution when travelling to Sri Lanka.

Local media quoting Canadian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson for Asia and Africa, Lisa Monette said there is no Official Travel Warning for Sri Lanka at this time.

"We now advise Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution for the country overall'" the spokesperson has said.
The Official Travel Warning for Sri Lanka says that while there have not been any recorded incidents of terrorist violence since the end of the war, violent incidents could still occur at anytime.
Regarding travel to the North and East, the Canadians in these areas are advised to exercise a high degree of caution and follow the instructions of the local authorities.
Earlier this year Canada had reviewed the Travel Report for Sri Lanka and removed the 'Official Travel Warning' that was in effect for the North and East, thereby removing the Travel Warning on all parts of the island.
