: A Tamil political party in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province, the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) is making arrangements to stage a public protest in Batticaloa demanding the release of a TMVP Municipal Councilor who has allegedly been abducted.
TMVP spokesperson Azad Moulana told the local media that the party was yet to receive any information on the whereabouts of TMVP Batticaloa Municipal Councilor Pragasam Sahayamany.
According to Moulana, it is believed that the TMVP councilor may have been abducted by some group despite the fact that there are no armed political outfits operating in the East anymore.
The protest is to be staged by the TMVP with the participation of the general public in Batticaloa demanding the release of the councilor as well as call the authorities to prevent such incidents in future.
Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan has reportedly urged the army and police to investigate the incident.
