Sri Lanka Tamil party accuses government of preventing IDPs from returning home in the North

Sri Lanka's Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today (2) accused the government of preventing displaced civilians in the once war torn areas from returning to their homes by militarizing the North.

TNA parliamentarians told a press briefing in Colombo today that the government's move to militarize areas in the North following the end of the 30 year old war last year, has prevented several IDPs from returning to their homes.
According to the TNA, the displaced people who have been affected by this move have been informed by the military that they will be provided with alternate homes.
The military had reportedly informed these civilians that their original homes would be to house soldiers and their families.
The TNA comments come at a time when the Indian government has announced its decision to send a senior official of the Indian External Affairs Ministry to Sri Lanka to witness the government's resettlement programme in the North and the issues faced by the Tamil people in the area.
