Sri Lanka's NFF Leader Minister Weerawansa ends fast unto death

Sri Lanka's National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Housing, Construction and Engineering Services Minister Wimal Weerawansa today (10) evening ended the fast unto death outside the UN office in Colombo following a visit by country's President Mahinda Rajapaksa.



President Rajapaksa arrived outside the UN office in Colombo today evening and offered a glass of water to Weerawansa who ended his fast after consuming the water.

Minister Weerawansa was later driven away in an ambulance.

The Minister commenced an indefinite outside the UN office in Colombo Thursday in protest over the panel of experts appointed by the UN Secretary-General.
The Minister said that the fast will continue until the panel of experts is withdrawn by the UN Chief.
Citing a highly placed source in the government ColomboPage earlier reported that the Minister is urged to consider ending the fast today.
The UN Secretary-General urged the government to take urgent action to normalize the conditions around the UN office.
Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera, Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa also visited the fasting Minister.
