Sri Lanka's main opposition says President has failed to make final APRC report public

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not make the final report of the All Party Representative Committee (APRC) public.

UNP parliamentarian R. Yogarajan told a press briefing in Colombo today that the report has been in the President's possession for a year since Prof. Vitharana had handed it over.

He said that although the APRC report was not given much prominence during the period of the war, it has not been made public even a year after the war has ended.

The APRC, headed by Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana was formed in 2006 with the aim of finding a political solution to the ethnic issue with the participation of all political parties.

The All Party Representative Committee comprised 14 political parties. The main opposition UNP, the Tamil national Alliance and the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna refrained from participating in the APRC sessions.
