Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to meet the coordinators, in-service advisers, master trainers and assistant trainers that conducted the phase one of the Presidential Initiative on English as a Life Skill programme on July 19th at the Temple Trees.
The occasion also marks the launch of the second phase of the programme.
A year ago, the President launched the National road Map to promote Spoken and Communicative English skills in Sri Lanka.
Under the programme, the Presidential Initiative trained 80 master teachers in English at Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad/ Another 320 were trained as assistant trainers throughout the island.
A sixty percent of the 22,500 English teachers of the country were trained to teach Spoken English through an accelerated programme that will be completed by the end of the year, the Ministry of Education said.
