Sri Lanka's Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today the leadership of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) seems to have fallen into a government trap on the proposed amendments to the Constitution.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a press briefing at the JVP headquarters today that the government is not genuine in its negotiations with the UNP and initiated the dialogue to overcome public opposition that was building against the constitutional amendments.
He said that the public was beginning to oppose the government's proposed constitutional amendments, which were to be brought forward in an arbitrary manner.
