Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said there were media reports that the government was going to appoint former Tamil Tiger chief of international relations Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP as chief minister of Northern Province.
Addressing media at Colombo today, the UNP General Secretary said that the LTTE leader Kumaran Padmanathan is kept by the government in the luxurious Colombo mansion 'Visumpaya' which late president R. Premadasa built for distinguished foreign guests.
UNP pointed out that the government had given him a helicopter to tour in Vavuniya recently, while refusing to grant a secured vehicle for former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka who is now in custody.
The UNP General Secretary challenged the ministers to comment on their earlier boastings that billions of rupees worth of LTTE ships and other assets would be brought to the country.
