Palestinian Ambassador to Sri Lanka says UN biased towards world powers

The United Nations' meddling into the internal affairs of Sri Lanka cannot be justified on any grounds, the Palestine government said yesterday.

Palestine's Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Anwar H. Alegha, during an official meeting with Sri Lankan Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne at the parliamentary complex Thursday, said the UN stance is clearly biased towards the agendas of world powers.

Dr. Algaha said the UN has adopted a neutral stand and neglects the cruelty unleashed by the State of Israel in Palestine indicating the bias of the organization that claims to be impartial.

The Ambassador said the official request extended by the Palestinian government to the UN to inquire war crimes committed in Palestine by Israel has not been taken into account yet.

"The UN body should serve as a moderate organization and its hierarchy should not work to meet the whims and fancies of powerful states," the Palestinian envoy said.

Dr. Alegha assured his government's support for Sri Lanka to face the international pressure exerted by the world powers on matters which threatened the internal security and political stability of the country.

The Premier said his government appreciates the support of Palestinian government to Sri Lanka in various aspects and emphasized the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations to benefit both countries economically.
