Fasting Sri Lankan Minister stops consuming water despite requests by medical team

Sri Lanka's National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Housing, Construction and Engineering Services Minister Wimal Weerawansa who is currently on a fast unto death outside the UN office in Colombo has stopped drinking water.



A NFF spokesperson has told the local media that Weerawansa had stopped consuming water amidst requests made by a medical team that had told him to continue consuming water.

The Minister commenced the fast unto death today demanding the withdrawal of the panel of experts appointed on Sri Lanka by the UN Secretary-General.

He commenced the fast after receiving the blessings of Buddhist monks in the morning and vowed to continue the fast until the panel was withdrawn.
