A doctor arrested for the mysterious death of a midwife in Jaffna Teaching Hospital in Sri Lanka's northern Jaffna peninsula has been assaulted and admitted to the hospital.
Hospital sources told the local media that the doctor was being treated for assault injuries.
The Kayts Magistrate has already remanded the doctor till July 24 for his alleged involvement in the suspected killing of Darshika Saravanan, 27, a midwife at Velanai hospital.
However, the doctor had to be taken to the hospital emergency ward due to the injuries.
Ms. Saravanan was found dead in her room in the official quarters on Sunday. Hospital sources say she had an argument with the doctor the night before.
Hundreds of health workers in the North staged a protest in Jaffna this week demanding the doctor's arrest.
