A senior Sri Lankan minister said today (23) that the move by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to appoint a panel of experts on Sri Lanka is 'unwarranted and unacceptable.'
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the local media today that appointment of the Panel of Experts is unwarranted and unacceptable to a sovereign nation like Sri Lanka.
Rambukwella accused the UN of having a 'hidden agenda' to help the vanquished terrorist group LTTE.
The UN Secretary General's Panel of Experts was appointed to advise the Secretary-General on the accountability issues of alleged human rights abuses during the final stages of the war last year.
The Sri Lankan government has opposed the move claiming the UN panel of experts has been appointed at a time the President has appointed the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission to look into such allegations.
