Sri Lanka to utilize satellites to conserve coastal areas

Sri Lanka plans to use Satellite Technology to conserve the coastal areas of the country, according to the Deputy Minister of Port and Aviation Services Rohitha Abeygunawardana.

The Deputy Minister revealed that the Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum has offered to provide the technical support for the project to help conserve the coastal areas to help Sri Lanka to successfully face environmental and meteorological changes.
Abeygunawardana made this announcement while participating in the second workshop on Space Application for Environment (SAFE) that commenced today at The Mount Lavinia Hotel in Mount Lavinia, a suburb of Colombo.
The second SAFE workshop was co-organized by the Coast Conservation Department (CCD) of Sri Lanka and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Representatives from nine Asian region countries also took part in this event.
The two-day workshop will illustrate how satellite data on environmental changes can be used to face climate changes successfully.
