Jun 27, Colombo: Bilateral corporation between Sri Lanka and India has turned a new leaf, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa told Chief Minister of India's Madya Pradesh Shivaraj Singh Chauhan when he called on the President today at the Temple Trees.
President Rajapaksa discussing a variety of issues important to both countries with the Chief Minister said this sort of diplomatic tours help to strengthen the relationships further.
The Chief Minister expressing his delight in visiting the island during the Poson said the relations between the two countries have been strong and his state government is planning to send a trade delegation to Sri Lanka to further strengthen the bilateral economic cooperation.
The most significant outcome from today's meeting was the agreement to jointly set up a first international Buddhist University in Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh to boost cultural and educational ties.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge, High Commissioner of India Ashok Kantha also participated in the discussions.
After the meeting with President, the Chief Minister participated in an almsgiving ceremony held at Sri Lankan Speaker's official residence.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and his family members, cabinet ministers, Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Minister Basil Rajapaksa, High Commissioner of India Ashok Kantha, staff of the parliament complex and other distinguished invitees also participated in the occasion.
