A hand grenade blast in a workmen's housing line in Delving State in Rakwana, a town in Ratnapura district injured 15 people today. Most of the residents of the housing line are ethnic Tamil estate workers.
Rakwana police say that 15 persons including nine women and four children were injured in the incident.
Many of the injured were admitted to Rakwana hospital. Two of the seriously injured were transferred to Ratnapura hospital, police said.
Ratnapura police are conducting investigations. Police suspect that a clash between residents has led to a grenade explosion.
Few incidents of this kind have been reported in Sri Lanka following the end of war against the Tamil Tiger rebels.
