A Sri Lankan court today sentenced the operators of a private bus to death for their negligence in an accident that resulted in the death of 41 people.
Kurunegala High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando today sentenced the driver and the conductor of a private bus that collided with a train at Yangalmodara in 2005 killing 41 people and injuring another 35. The Colombo-bound private passenger bus from Galkiriyagama trying to beat another private bus has disregarded the rail warning signs when it collided with an inter-city express train running from Colombo to Kandy in May 2005 at a level crossing in Yangalmodara close to Polgahawela. The Attorney General has filed 152 charges against the bus driver and the conductor.
