Sri Lanka ruling party MP's bail application postponed

Colombo A Sri Lankan court today postponed the hearing of the bail application filed on behalf of Sri Lanka's ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Duminda Silva who is charged with murder.
The Colombo High Court postponed the hearing of the bail application filed by the parliamentarian's father A. Vincent Premalal Silva to April 24. The MP is accused of killing 4 people including the Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra in an election day shootout on October 08, 2011. Silva and 13 other suspects have been charged with the killings. Silva, who sustained critical injuries to the head during the shootout, returned to the island last month after receiving treatments at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for his injuries. In the bail application MP Silva's father said Duminda is still recovering after undergoing brain surgery and needs to be in a germ-free environment. The petitioner has said in his bail application that his son would not be a threat to witnesses if he was released on bail.
