UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said the party would commence a non-violent guerilla operation targeting elections to attract all persons with opposing views to the party. Addressing an event in Deniyaya, Wickremasinghe said the party was now engaged in the second phase of its recruitment drive. He added that the UNP was now gathering strength and would be a formidable front to face the next round of elections. Wickremasinghe noted that he has no faith in the media for campaigning as both private as well as government media is controlled by the President and therefore, the opposition has decided to take their message to the people going from home to home at village level. According to Wickremasinghe, people are now realizing the real situation of the government and are not pleased with it. If the majority in villages is with the opposition, there will not be any room for government terrorism, the opposition leader said.
