SriLankan Airlines considering flights to more Indian destinations

A delegation from Sri Lanka's national carrier SriLankan Airlines is scheduled to visit Visakhapatnam in India on September 11 to study the potential demand for operation of flights from that city to Colombo. According to a report in Indian daily The Hindu, members of the delegation are slated to interact with airport officials, tour operators, and business leaders to study the potential and make a recommendation to launch operations based on the demand.
The Sri Lankan carrier is reportedly planning to operate flights either to Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam from Colombo in the near future. Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in New Delhi Prasad Kariyawasam has reportedly been trying to convince the national carrier to initiate services to Visakhapatnam following its withdrawal from Hyderabad a couple of years ago. SriLankan currently serves seven destinations in India, namely, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin, Trivandrum and Tiruchirappalli.
