Director of blocked Sri Lanka opposition party website appears before CID

Ruwan Ferdinands, Coordinating Secretary of Sri Lanka opposition United National Party (UNP) Media Unit Chief Mangala Samaraweera, appeared before Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today.
CID recorded a statement from him regarding the websites he is responsible for publishing. Ruwan Ferdinands is the Editorial Director of Sri Lanka X News website linked to the UNP Media Unit. He is the former Editorial Director of Sri Lanka Mirror website which is also blocked by the government. CID raided the offices of these websites recently and arrested nine people including journalists and seized the computers. The journalists were later released but the computers were kept in custody for further investigations. Later Ferdinands surrendered to courts but CID rejected naming him as a suspect and said that only a statement needed to be recorded from him.
