Sri Lanka Tamil party meets Indian High Commissioner

The leader of the major Tamil party of Sri Lanka, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has held a meeting with the High Commissioner of India Ashok K. Kantha on Friday (25) in Batticaloa. Several TNA representatives have also participated in the meeting between the party leader, parliamentarian R. Sampanthan and Mr. Kantha. According to a TNA spokesperson, the meeting focused on the grievances of the Tamil community in the North and the elections for the Northern Provincial Council that is to be held in future.
The Tamil party has also discussed its stance on the parliamentary select committee proposed by the President to formulate a solution to the ethnic problem. An Indian parliamentary delegation visited Sri Lanka last month has said that the President Mahinda Rajapaksa needed to persuade the TNA to join the Parliamentary Select Committee to find a political solution to address the grievances of Tamils. However, the TNA has set conditions that it would resume talks with the government only on the agreement that the consensus reached in the discussions with the government earlier is used as the basis of discussion for the proposed PSC.
