Sri Lanka Presidential Secretariat sources say the jailed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka will be freed from jail today.
According to the sources President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to sign the documents for Fonseka's release today coinciding with the commemoration of the war victory for which Fonseka gave leadership.
Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa Friday granted bail to Fonseka in the case against him for harboring the Army deserters, the only case currently in courts against him.
The Court granted him Rs. one million cash bail and two sureties of Rs. 2.5 million each. His passport was taken into the court's custody. Fonseka has already spent one prison sentence imposed on him by a court martial. He has appealed against another sentence imposed on him over the ill famous white flag case.
