In Pictures: Sri Lanka's ruling party May Day Rally

massive crowd attended the May Day rally of Sri Lanka's ruling party United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) held at the Town Hall municipal grounds in Colombo Tuesday (01) under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa

Individual parades of the constituent parties of UPFA, led by the party leaders, converged on the Town Hall grounds from several locations of the Colombo city to participate in the rally. Main constituent Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) parade commenced from Campbell Park while the National Freedom Front (NFF) parade began from Ayurvedic Roundabout at Rajagiriya. The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) parade started from near Narahenpita Abayaramaya Temple. Sri Lankan President addressing the massive rally said that no foreign element will ever be allowed to topple the people-elected government of Sri Lanka and only a democratic election can change the government and called on all the patriotic people to work together disregarding petty differences to protect the country. He pointed out that the government created the peaceful environment by eliminating the terrorism so that the main opposition United National party can hold its May Day rally in Jaffna today. The President also explained the measures taken by the government to grant relief for the working people and added that the gove









rnment has well understood the problems faced by the people at present.
