Former Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition files petition in courts against party decision

Former Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Karu Jayasuriya has filed a petition in courts against the party's decision to take disciplinary action against him. Jayasuriya has filed the petition in the Colombo District Court seeking an enjoining order against the UNP's disciplinary committee decision to call for explanation from him.
The party's disciplinary committee has last week in writing asked Jayasuriya for explanation for criticizing the report presented by President's Counsel Srinath Perera on the attack on the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, last December during the election for office bearers. Additional District Judge C.J. Rajaratne is to take the petition for consideration today.
