Sri Lankan court grants permission for Fonseka to receive treatment at private hospital

A Sri Lankan court has today granted permission for former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka to receive medical treatment at a private hospital. The Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapakse has directed prison officials to allow Fonseka to receive medical treatment at the Nawaloka Hospital for bronchitis.
The judge has issued the directive after Fonseka's lawyer informed court of the medical report where it had been stated that Fonseka suffered from an illness of the lungs that required treatment and that it was diagnosed by specialist Dr. Vajira Tennakoon. The representations were made when the case against Fonseka for harboring army deserters during the 2010 Presidential election campaign was taken up for hearing today. The case is to be taken up again on May 4th.
