Sri Lanka Marxist party doubts the dissident members' abduction saga

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the abduction saga of two of its dissident members lacked clarity. JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath made this statement in reference to the abduction and release of Frontline Socialist Party members Premakumar Gunaratnam and Dimuthu Attygalle.
Herath observed that there have been many contradictory statements so far creating doubts over the entire incident. He told the media that all parties involved in the incident and media reports on the incident have made contradictory statements and there was a need for clarity on the matter. The two activists claimed they were abducted separately by the government security forces or groups working with the government on April 06 and later released at separate locations in Colombo on April 10. The Sri Lankan government rejected the accusation that a government hand was involved in the alleged kidnapping of the duo. The External Affairs Ministry issuing a statement said that there are many features relating to the alleged abduction which throw considerable doubt on the reliability and trustworthiness of the version of the events which have been released to the media. However, Herath has maintained that a person called Premakumar Gunaratnam was not a member of the JVP politburo or central committee before his defection.
