The disciplinary committee of Sri Lanka's main government party, the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) has summoned the party's Kelaniya organizer and Minister Mervyn Silva today to record a statement.
The controversial minister has been asked to appear before the disciplinary committee today to respond to queries by the committee on the clash between him and the SLFP members of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha. Members of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha have previously handed a file to the disciplinary committee containing details of Silva's alleged corrupt and fraudulent activities in the Kelaniya area. SLFP sources have said the disciplinary committee would question the Minister about these allegations as well. SLFP members in the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha are to be summoned before the committee on another date. Meanwhile, Silva yesterday appeared before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption to give a statement on a complaint filed by him against the Chairman of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha.
