A Sri Lankan government minister says that he would quit his position in the legislature if corruption charges leveled against him are proven.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party's Kelaniya organizer and Public Affairs Minister, Mervyn Silva has said that
he was ready to quit as a member of parliament if the corruption charges leveled against him are proven. Silva has made this comment during an event in Negombo, where he has observed that certain media have published false news reports of bribery investigations into him. "This is a public statement. If any of these people who are claiming that there are corruption charges against can prove these allegations, I will quit politics after telling the people since I have been elected with 150,000 public votes," he has said. Silva has noted that he had visited the Bribery Commission to make a statement about a complaint made by him about the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman. The controversial minister has denied ever being involved in corruption but admitted he may have minor faults.
