Sri Lanka ruling party minister and local council chairman lodge complaints accusing each othe

Sri Lanka Police have assigned a special investigations unit to probe the issues in the Kelaniya electorate. The police have received two complaints against Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Kelaniya organizer and Minister of Public Relations Mervyn Silva and Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, Prasanna Ranaweera.
Police media spokesman Superintendent of Police Ajith Rohana has confirmed receipt of two such complaints. A complaint has been lodged against Silva by Ranaweera's faction and another has been lodged against Ranaweera by Silva's side. However, SP Rohana has said he was unable to comment on the details in the two complaints, which are based on criticizing each other's conduct. The complaint against Ranaweera has been signed by Silva and the one against the Minister has been signed by Ranaweera and a group of Pradeshiya Sabha members. The two sides have been trading charges of corruption among other malpractices in the past few days. The Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha accuses the controversial minister of extortion, illegal land acquisition, misusing funds and interfering in the local government body's work. The Minister, in return, has accused the local council chairman of illegal activities.
