Local council members to present evidence on Sri Lankan Minister's misdeeds to ruling party Secretary

The governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) members of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha are to hand over a file on the alleged misdeeds of Public Relations and Public Affairs Minister Mervyn Silva to the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Minister Maithripala Sirisena today.
The UPFA councilors are scheduled to meet Sirisena this evening to explain the current situation in the Kelaniya area. Minister Mervyn Silva is also the SLFP electoral organizer for Kelaniya. The Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha members have been agitating against Silva for the past few days alleging him of carrying out large scale corruption in the area. Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Lanka Vijitha Kumara told ColomboPage that details and proof of the Minster's illegal activities would be handed over to Minister Sirisena today. "We have been accused by Minister Silva, we want to prove our innocence and want to ensure that the Council is allowed to perform its duties without any interference," he said. He added that the SLFP secretary would be informed of all the misdoings to enable a disciplinary inquiry against the party organizer for Kelaniya. According to Kumara, the members would decide on the future course of action depending on the outcome of today's meeting. The Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha accuses the controversial minister of extortion, illegal land acquisition, misusing funds and interfering in the local government body's work. The Minister, in return, has accused the local council chairman of illegal activities.
