3,000 teachers to be employed this year in Sri Lanka's Education sector

Education Minister of Sri Lanka Bandula Gunawardena says that interviews have commenced to employ 3,000 new teachers to the country's education sector this year. Gunawardena has said that these newly enrolled teachers have to serve in the schools assigned to them and they cannot request for transfers.
The new teachers are to be enrolled in information technology (IT), science, math and English. The Minister has said these teachers would be provided special training after they are employed by the Education Ministry. The new enrolments are expected to address the issue of vacancies for key subjects in some schools in the country. According to Gunawardena, the government is also in the process of developing many facilities in the education sector including a distance learning system for students.
