Prime Minister emphasizes the need to involve Sri Lankan youth for country's economic development

Prime Minister of Sri Lanka D.M. Jayaratne says that the government has given priority to enlisting the assistance of the youth in the country to accelerate the economic development.

The Prime Minister had made this comment at a public function in Matale to present the National Youth Services Awards.

Jayaratne has said that programmes to identify the youth talents and leadership programmes were a necessity to society.

He has explained that leadership training is not only required to become a President, Prime Minister or a political leader.

"Society moves forward due to leadership. It could happen in a small village society where a person would give leadership and build an effective leadership there," he has said.

According to Jayaratne, priority needed to be given to our younger generation to build a solid base in them for the country's development.
